FCC Chairman Ajit Pai gets home demo for net neutrality

Submitted by Luke on Sun, 05/14/2017 - 20:55

On the 14th of May, Popular Resistance showed up outside the home of FCC Chairman Ajit Pai in opposition to reopening the net neutrality issue. In addtion, three of Pai's neighbors joined the protest. Net neutrality was thought to be settled law, but Trump and Pai want to reopen the danger of paid prioritization and throttling or outright blocking of websites that cannot pay for premium "fast lanes.

This 33 second video of the protest would become harder to access without net neutrality

On the 10th of May, Code Pink held a "laugh-in" in front of the Dept of Justice to protest these outrageous possible prison terms-and the decades in prison Inauguration protesters are facing.

Comey firing draws Russiagate/Trump protesters to White House

Submitted by Luke on Wed, 05/10/2017 - 15:59

On the 9th of May, Trump fired FBI director James Comey. It is generally believed this is due to his request for more resources to investigate "Russiagate," the suspicions that Trump had help from Putin in the 2016 election. On the 10th of May, protesters gathered in front of the White House not to defend the FBI but rather against Trump. Some demanded a special prosecutor, others went further to demand that Trump be impeached.

Community demands removal of police, Wells Fargo, arms contractors from Capitol Pride Parade

Submitted by Luke on Tue, 05/09/2017 - 01:56

On the 8th of May, the Capitol Pride board held a rare open community meeting as controversy swirled about the inclusion of MPD, Wells Fargo, arms contractors, MD live, and other inappropriate sponsors and contingents in the upcoming June 10 parade. Many people from marginalized groups showed up to ask pointed questions, the board's answers were long on words but almost completely empty of any commitments to take action.

Submitted by Luke on Mon, 05/01/2017 - 21:40

In the final week of April new and even more extreme charges were filed against many of the DisruptJ20 defendants, some now facing 8 felonies carrying a total of 100 years (!) imprisonment. At least one new defendant was charged as well. On May 1, while Mayday protests continued elsewhere in the city, activists converged on DC Superior Court to demand that both the new and the previously existing charges be dropped

Reportbacks from Mayday

Submitted by Luke on Mon, 05/01/2017 - 20:49

DC's Mayday march was a two-part affair, beginning with an immigrant march from Mount Pleasant that linked up with a worker's march at Malcolm X Part before continuing to Freedom Plaza and a much larger immigrant rally at the White House. A third march started at Dupont Circle and proceeded directly to Lafayette Park. The Worker's March was marred by harassment from both neo-Nazis and police. Two protesters were detained but both were released as police could not find or fake any kind of probable cause.

On the 28th of April, Beyond Extreme Energy showed up at the offices of FERC, the Federal agency that issues permits for oil and gas pipelines that make eminent domain possible. FERC currently lacks a quorum due to vacancies and is shut down, but that does not stop already approved projects. The April 28th protest featured sweet potatoes, as Atlantic Coast pipeline threatens to severely harm N Carolina's sweet potato farmer, many of whom are on the route and facing eminent domain.

Indigneous drummers lead round dance on Penn Ave in front of Trump Hotel against pipelines

Submitted by Luke on Fri, 04/28/2017 - 00:43

On the evening of April 27, as the People's Climate March was two days out, drummers from multiple Indigenous communities held a drum circle and round dance in front of Trump Hotel. At the climax the entire round dance took over Penn Ave in front of the hotel, blocking traffic in all 4 directions at Pennm and 12th sts. The drummers and dancers were there because of Trump's executive orders ramming pipelines through Indigenous lands, and Trumps general pro-extractive agenda too.

Code Pink, Popular Resistance protest as Trump summons all 100 Senators for N Korea war conference

Submitted by Luke on Wed, 04/26/2017 - 20:07

On the 26th of April, Trump summoned all 100 US Senators for a conference generally believed to be about a potential war against North Korea. The dictator of N Korea and wannabe dictator of "North America" have been in a situation best compared to an escalating fight in a crowded restaurant between two heavily-armed, violently psychotic Mafia dons. As protesters set up to denounce the brewing war, the police closed or claimed to close Lafayette Park, as they so often do at "convenient" moments these days.

Submitted by Luke on Mon, 04/24/2017 - 19:11

On the 23rd of April, DC area antifascists held a public outreach event at GW University after a failed neo-nazi "night of the flier" did not post any of their threatened racist fliers. Neo-Nazi Jack Posobiec and one of his friends showed up and walked up to disrupt the event with shouting. Posobiec tempted a bike messenger who came to the area as part of an Alleycat ride into a fight, then had him arrested.
