Protesters at White House after Trump cancels TPS for Salvadorans, 250K+ face deportation

On the 8th of January, Donald Trump's Homeland Security secretary Kisstjen Nielson announced that Temporary Protected Status for Salvadoran immigrants is being terminated. Now an estimated quarter million people risk deportation after Sep 2019, the formal end date for TPS. As word of this racist decision spread, protesters gathered at the White House.

Remembering Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr (video)

On the second anniversary of the execution of Shia civil rights and democracy activist Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr by the Saudi Arabian government, his god-son Mustafa and a colleague drove from Michigan and joined Code Pink to protest in front of the Saudi Arabian embassy. Despite a wind chill in the single digits, the late Sheikh's voice filled the street in a reminder of the continuing human rights abuses against Shia citizens in Saudi Arabia.

Riders OBJECT to proposed DC Circulator route changes to favor private business over other riders

On the 4th of January, riders of the DC Circulator objected at a public hearing to proposed April 2018 "major service changes" that would favor upscale development on the Potomac Waterfront over existing bus riders and over nonprofit and governmental agencies and their workers.

Victory Rally held on Freedom Plaza for first six J20 defendants after acquittal

On the 22nd of December, three of the former J20 defendants acquitted by a jury on Dec 21 spoke at a victory rally held on Freedom Plaza. They and other speakers denounced the governments's so far failed attempt to abuse the legal process to suppress dissent under Donald Trump. At this point, the J20 trial scoreboard stands at six acquitted, 188 more to go.

People For Fairness Coalition holds annual march and vigil for fallen homeless

On the 21st of December, People For Fairness coaltion held their annual vigil and march to remember those who have died on the street while homeless this year. This year 45 people died on the streets, some of their names as well as a casket were carried in the march from Luther Place Memorial Church to Freedom Plaza.

First 6 defendents acquitted of all charges in first J20 trial

On the 21st of December, after a trial lasting well over a month, the jury returned a verdict in the first of the many J20 trials: all six defendents not guilty on all counts. The jury has thrown Jennefer Kerkhoff's "novel legal theories" about proximity to protest being somehow unlawful back in the government's face. There are 188 more defendents still facing serious charges, but the government has taken a serious defeat in this first trial.

Vigil held at DC Jail for DREAM 7 as more protests demand no budget without a clean DREAM Act

On the 19th of December, DREAMERs, other migrants, and their allies held a vigil outside the DC Jail for 7 DREAMers and one ally who were being held after a Friday civil disobedience in Senator Schumer's office. They refused to give their names and are on a hunger strike until a clean DREAM act is part of the upcoming budget deal. Three were supposed to be released Tues night but never were.

Civil Disobedience over GOP Tax Bill rocks Capitol Hill

On the 18th of December, the US Senate prepared to vote the following day on Donald Trump's GOP Tax Scam bill. Hundreds of protesters swarmed the offices of both the House and Senate, joined at times by pro DREAM Act protesters. The protests culminated in civil disobedience in the Russell Senate Office builidng Rotunda.

Rising Hearts hoaxes Washington Football Team with name change to Redhawks

FCC votes 3-2 to scrap net neutrality after mass rally in front of their HQ

On the 14th of December, the FCC voted 3-2 to scrap all net neutrality protections. Both of the dissenting FCC commissioners spoke at a mass rally in front of the FCC prior to the vote. Lawsuits are now being filed to halt the revocation of net neutrality. If the lawsuits fail, you may need to buy a video upgrade to your Internet service or use Torbrowser to bypass your carrier's restrictions to watch video on this site.

ACLU delivers 50,000 drop J20 petitions to US attys office

On the 11th of December, the ACLU and several other groups delivered 50,000 signed petitions to the US Attorney's office at 555 4th st demanding that all charges from the Inauguration protests be dropped. The petitions more generally demand that the US attorney's office stop criminalizing dissent. None of the six defendents whose trials continue this week are alleged to have committed any individualized unlawful acts, only collective guilt for the acts of others.

Prayer vigil and protest held at White House against Trump moving US Embassy to Jerusalem

On Friday, December 8 protesters gathered in front of the White House to protest Trump's reckless decision to treat Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and move the US Embassy there. Protesters were mostly Muslism but Christians, Jews, and members of other faiths also were present in solidarity with hard-pressed Palestinians.

Net Neutrality activists protest swanky dinner for FCC Chairman Pai

On the 7th of December, FCC Chairman Agit Pai was the guest of dishonor at a swanky dinner held at the Hilton on Connecticut Ave. Protesters outside shouted disapproval. Pai is a former Verizon lobbyist now seeking to dismantle all vestiges of Internet neutrality now that he's at the FCC. In addition to this protest there were protests at Verizon stores all over the US.

Over 200 arrested on Capitol steps in pro-DACA protest

Indigenous pray-in at US Capitol opposes GOP tax bill

Leaders from the Gwich’in Nation and Inupiaq Tribe traveled from northern Alaska and the Yukon Territory in Canada on Dec 6 to lead a pray in against the tax bill and urge Congress to drop drilling in the Arctic from the bill. Senator Elizabeth Warren, Senator Jeff Merkley, Senator Mark Udall, and Representative Alan Lowenthal all came out to support and joined the call to stop Arctic drilling.

On Saturday, November 25, 2017, on or about 2 PM, while demonstrating against Donald Trump in front of the White House, Jim was physically attacked by a hyper-aggressive pro-Trump goon.  The attacker was a young guy, very muscular, very enraged at the  demonstration signs, and shouting violent epithets at Jim and cursing his anti-Trump signs.

Protesters take over Dirksen Building hallways against Trump Tax Bill

On the 28th of November, protesters opposing Trump's bill to cut taxes on the rich, jack up middle class taxes, and cut Medicaid and other benefits swarmed into the Dirksen Building and took over at least one hallway. Many refused to leave and were dragged away by Capitol Police, leading to multiple arrests.
